A practical specification checklist — from governing code to destination port — so your first tube sheet RFQ is comparable and manufacturable.
Ordering a heat exchanger tube sheet is not the same as ordering plate stock. The part sits on the pressure boundary, freezes the hole pattern, and locks material and joint decisions that are expensive to reverse mid-project. This guide is for EPC buyers, OEM engineers and project procurement teams placing a first — or overdue — structured RFQ.
Name TEMA class (R / C / B), ASME section (typically VIII), and any end-client specification on the RFQ. Quotes without a code baseline are not comparable. See our standards pillar and TEMA classes explained.
Structural type decides how the exchanger absorbs differential expansion and whether the bundle can be withdrawn. Start with fixed, floating or U-tube — then add features.
Joint method drives inspection scope, weld prep, and often low-carbon grade selection (e.g. 316L). Compare expanded vs welded.
“Stainless” is not a specification. State ASTM / UNS (for example SS316L / S31603). Browse all 22 grades or material families.
Or attach a controlled drawing revision. Thickness is calculated — not guessed — from ΔP, span and ligament efficiency.

Specify PMI, UT, RT, hydro and MTC type (EN 10204). Match tests to consequence of failure — testing pillar.
