Trade-offs

Advantages & limitations

Advantages

  • Optimized for large-surface, high-flow condensing duty
  • Well-established material pairings for seawater and cooling water service

Limitations

  • Large size increases freight, handling, and lead time considerations
  • Material selection for seawater service requires careful corrosion engineering
FAQ — Schema Marked

Questions about condenser tube sheets

Condensing duty typically requires more surface area for a given heat duty than sensible-heat exchange, and cooling water flow rates are often high — both push condenser tube sheets toward the largest end of the size range.

Copper-Nickel 90/10 is the most common economical default for general seawater and cooling water service; Titanium Grade 2 is specified where higher corrosion resistance or lower weight is needed.

Floating construction is common for large condensers since it allows full bundle pulling for cleaning and accommodates thermal cycling; segmental construction is used once diameter exceeds single-piece limits.
