Drilling that follows the released drawing

NPRO India manufactures tube sheets in Mumbai for EPC, OEM and industrial buyers across India and export markets. This page is for commercial drilling intent — when you need CNC tube sheet drilling or tube sheet drilling job work executed to your pattern, pitch and acceptance criteria.

If you are comparing vendors for tube sheet drilling services, the commercial question is not a list of machine brands. It is whether the shop will review your hole table, material and joint method before cutting metal, then hold the pattern through inspection and documentation. That is how we quote.

For how the process works in educational detail, see the article CNC tube sheet drilling: process, accuracy & hole patterns. For finished product classifications, see CNC machined tube sheets and drilled tube sheets.

Definition

What is tube sheet drilling?

Tube sheet drilling is the machining of the full tube hole pattern in a heat exchanger or condenser tube sheet so tubes can be expanded or welded to drawing.

On a commercial RFQ, “drilling” usually includes locating every hole from agreed datums, controlling diameter for tube fit-up, maintaining pitch across the pattern, and leaving a bore condition suitable for the joint method. CNC control is used when positional consistency across high hole counts, clad constructions or tight joint designs matters.

CNC tube sheet drilling means the pattern is programme-controlled rather than relying on purely conventional layout. Capability for a specific diameter, thickness and alloy is confirmed against your drawing during enquiry — we do not publish unverified machine travel or spindle claims on this page.

Patterns & Inputs

Hole patterns, pitch and engineering inputs

Pattern choice is a design decision. The shop drills what the approved drawing specifies.

Common layoutsTriangular, square and rotated-square (diamond) pitch used in TEMA practice. Name the pattern explicitly; do not mix pitch definitions between notes and the hole table.
Exceptions that scrap platesUntubed lanes, pass-partition zones and baffle-clearance voids must appear in the programme. Blind, stepped or weld-prep holes need clear callouts.
Drawing packageReleased revision, hole coordinates or pitch rules, finished hole diameter/tolerance, material grade and thickness, cladding details if any.
Joint intentExpanded, welded or hybrid — bore finish and groove work follow the joint method. See expanded vs welded.
Heat Exchanger Focus

Heat exchanger tube sheet drilling

Most commercial drilling RFQs are for shell-and-tube heat exchanger and condenser tube sheets.

Heat exchanger tube sheet drilling sits at the intersection of thermal design and shop execution. Ligament geometry, tube count and pass arrangement come from the exchanger design; drilling quality decides whether tubes enter cleanly and joints seal as intended. The same drawing-led approach applies to condenser tube sheet drilling and related shell-and-tube duties.

Buyers typically need: TEMA-aligned layouts where specified, ASME Section VIII awareness on pressure parts, material families matched to process fluid, and inspection records that travel with the blank. Product context: heat exchanger tube sheets. Process education (informational, not a sales duplicate): how CNC drilling works.

Requirements are reviewed against the submitted drawing. Share tube OD, pitch, layout, hole diameter/tolerance, material, thickness, quantity and any clad notes with your RFQ so manufacturability can be confirmed before a commercial offer is locked.

A separate heat-exchanger-only drilling URL is not published at this stage — this section addresses that commercial intent until Search Console shows clearly independent demand.

Applications

Where tube sheet drilling is typically specified

Drawing-led CNC drilling is commonly requested for shell-and-tube heat exchangers, condensers and related process equipment tube sheets.

Procurement and engineering teams use this service when the hole pattern must follow a released layout rather than a generic catalogue pitch. Related product pages help freeze structural type and application before machining begins: heat exchanger tube sheets, CNC machined tube sheets and precision machined tube sheets.

Quality & Standards

Inspection, documentation and standards

A drilled tube sheet is finished when inspection matches the purchase order. Typical checks include diameter sampling, pitch/position checks on critical zones, visual review for tear-out or clad discontinuity at hole walls, cleaning verification, and linkage to mill certificates. See testing & quality.

Governing references commonly cited on RFQs include TEMA tolerance practice and ASME Section VIII design notes — confirm the codes that apply to your project on standards. Production runs under NPRO India’s ISO 9001 quality management system.

RFQ Checklist

What to include in your tube sheet drilling RFQ

Complete packages produce comparable quotes and fewer drawing queries. Requirements are reviewed against the submitted specification — we do not assume capability beyond what the drawing allows.

  1. Released drawing revision (PDF) with hole table or CAD coordinates
  2. Tube layout / pattern type, tube pitch and any untubed regions
  3. Tube OD intent and finished hole diameter with tolerance notes
  4. Material grade, finished thickness and cladding details if applicable
  5. Joint method intent (expand, weld or hybrid) and groove requirements
  6. Quantity, inspection extent, documentation pack and delivery destination

Missing joint method, vague grade language or incomplete hole tables are common delays — see RFQ mistakes. When ready, submit your RFQ or email sales@nproindia.in.

FAQ

CNC tube sheet drilling — questions buyers ask

Yes. Send the released drawing, material grade and inspection expectations through the enquiry form. We review manufacturability, then quote CNC tube sheet drilling or related machining scope against that package.

This page is the commercial service / job-work landing for drilling intent. The CNC machined tube sheets page describes the finished product classification. Use both when you need service clarity plus product context.

Clad constructions are drilled after cladding when specified, so holes pass through base and clad layers as a unit. State clad alloy, thickness and which face is clad on the RFQ so procedures and inspection can be planned.

Tolerances are project-specific and must come from your drawing, client specification or agreed TEMA/ASME practice. We do not publish a single universal hole-diameter or positional figure for every exchanger on this page.

Include the released drawing revision, pattern/pitch notes, finished hole diameter and tolerance, material grade and thickness, cladding details if any, joint method, quantity, inspection expectations and delivery destination. Share the package through the enquiry form for a manufacturability review.

Why NPRO India for drilling

Engineering review before the quote — not after scrap

Every drilling enquiry is checked for pattern feasibility, material fit and documentation scope before a commercial offer is locked. That is the same engineering-led approach described across our manufacturing and about pages.
